Mahjong Treasure Quest puts dozens of tiles on the game board, asking the player to find matches amidst a sea of kanji symbols and drawings. If the player is going to be successful, they must be able to sustain their attention on short-term tasks. They'll need to stay focused, ignoring internal and external distractions, or they might run out of time or make the wrong match. In either case, the lack of focus will make a puzzle difficult, or impossible to solve completely. A lack of focus can also result in the player not earning as many points, which means fewer stars and fewer collectible ingredients and, eventually, being unable to advance to higher levels until a gate has been unlocked by collecting the right number of stars.

Another important aspect of Mahjong Treasure Quest requires working memory skills. It is necessary for the player to work to improve their forgetfulness and use their visual memory to remember where they have seen a three dot tile to match the three dot tile they just uncovered (for example). The more they use these skills, the faster they will make their matches and the more stars they will earn. It is also important to be able to follow directions (such as which order to collect the tiles in). If a player can't follow directions, the player will fail timed levels or levels that contain tiles that need collected in a certain order.

The game has a new arrangement of tiles each level. The goal is to clear the tiles by finding matching pairs. The player must beat some levels within a time limit and collect tiles in a specific order in others. The game also offers daily quests, side quests, item collection, and special events. There are in-game purchases.  
 

The levels are very simple. All you have to do is clear all the tiles off the board. You do that by pairing up tiles together with their identical counterparts. This will remove the pair off the board and clear up whatever tiles that they have stood in the way of. Clear all the tiles, and you’ll have the means to find treasure.The game will let you choose one out of three treasure chests, each of which holds a certain item.It would also be nice if the special offer levels lasted longer than a few days. Some of the levels are extra hard and you have to wait to recoup your lives which seems to take 20+ minutes.

Create perfect or standard matches when you dig through the tiles to reach the treasure. Hexagonal tiles and three levels ensure a challenging and fresh experience.Match the tiles by finding matching pairs before you run out of time. If you match numbers with the same background colour, you will receive a higher score. Clear a level to advance the next, harder level.To be able to remove a tile it has to be free to move. This means that it cannot have another tile that covers any part of it, and it has to have three connected sides free.Tiles that are free to move are of a slightly brighter colour. Use the Shuffle option when you are stuck, but if there were remaining pairs you could have cleared you get a time deduction.

If you don’t like what you’ve picked, you can always open another chest. However, this will cost you 3 coins. Coins, the game’s currency, are generated every time you finish a level. You get one coin from each level.There’s also a special level called the “Dungeon.” Your goal here is to obtain the key to a special treasure chest. The only way you can do that is to finish all three rounds in this bonus level. However, these rounds are timed so you have to be very fast in pairing up those tiles.

These special chests can give you lots of freebies, including collectibles and power-ups.
Power-ups are intended to help make the game easier for you. The Shuffle power up will rearrange all the tiles if you’ve run out of moves, while the Bomb power up will reshuffle certain tiles only at random.Some levels also give you gifts, but you have to clear them first before you can collect the gift in addition to the collectibles that you receive when you select your treasure chests at the end of each level.
